August 2011: Ride The Route Sportive, 4th September

Are you ready to ride the route everyone is talking about? If you watched the Surrey Classics on 14th August and can’t wait for the Olympics in July 2012, then your next step is to ride the route on 4th September: 65 miles starting from 6am at Imber Court in East Molesey.

This isn’t an event for beginners, you need to be over 18 and fit enough for the challenge. The route will be fully arrowed, marshalled, with roadside mechanical support from Sigma Sport, electronic timing, first aid and paramedic support, feed stations, free parking, a well stocked goodie bag and of course our super team of TheTriTouch sports therapists for your post event sports massage (£10 for 15 min sports massage). Sports massage has been recognised as an essential therapy to athletes since the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. A post event session will help you recover quicker while soothing sore muscles.

We’ll have 3 sports therapists from TheTriTouch massage crew on site to support the riders:

Mike Peters, Sam Wattie and Julia Warren have first hand knowledge of cycling specific recovery:

Mike Peters (Kenilworth)

Mike employs his skills alongside coaching in a whole athlete development approach.  He is fully qualified sports teacher providing team support for the elite GB athletics team. He holds coaching qualifications in a number of sports and is an instructor with the British Weight Lifters Association.

Mike is no stranger to endurance sport, winning medals as a student, county runner and a former British Masters steeplechase champion.

He guided one of Britain’s top visually impaired Paralympians at both the Sydney Paralympics and in two subsequent world championships over distances from 5000m to the marathon.

He has been part of TheTriTouch massage crew since 2010 and has joined us for the last 2 years at The London-Paris.

Sam Wattie (Sevenoaks & Esher)

Sam has a passion for sports and bike riding of all kinds, having owned his first motorbike at age four. He raced Moto-Cross for over ten years competing in club and National events; and also played rugby for Bromley and Kent. He now plays Tennis, Golf and takes his road bike to track days at Brands Hatch.

Sam speaks fluent French having lived and worked in l’Alpe d’Huez for over eight years enjoying the skiing (competed in downhill and mogul skiing events), snowboarding and paragliding. He watched the Tour De France live on many occasions and, like Mike, he has been part of TheTriTouch massage crew since 2010 and has joined us for the last 2 years at The London-Paris.

Julia Warren (Bristol and Hampton Wick)

Julia took up sports massage out of a desire to help athletes keep injury-free and improve their recovery, and to optimise their performance both during training and competition.  She is passionate about sport, so when injury prevented her from participating herself, sports massage was the obvious choice to stay involved.

Julia’s main sports are rowing and triathlon.  She was a member of the British Rowing team as a lightweight rower, and the highlight of her time in the team was a silver medal at the World Championships in 2003.  More recently she competed in triathlons as a member of  Thames Turbo Triathlon Club.
