August 2011 – Are You Ready For The Alpine Challenge? We Are!
The Alpine Challenge is a 4 stage Alpine event in September (110-120km per day) organised by HotChillee and designed using the same formula as the famous London-Paris. Based out of the beautiful lakeside town of Annecy in the Savoie, the scenery and riding is breathtaking every day.
TheTriTouch is the proud sports massage partner for the event since its creation in 2010, sending therapists from our massage crew on site to support the riders.
This year, we selected Mike Peters and Dan Scott. Together they will look after over 60 riders who will enjoy the benefits of rolling road closures, motorbike outriders, lead vehicles, mechanics and Mavic neutral service.
If last year’s event is anything to go by (Elena Ward was our Alpine Challenge therapist in 2011), we’re sure the riders will very much look forward to Mike and Dan’s knowledge of cycling specific recovery, and their ‘healing hands’:
Mike Peters (Kenilworth)
Mike employs his skills alongside coaching in a whole athlete development approach. He is fully qualified sports teacher providing team support for the elite GB athletics team. He holds coaching qualifications in a number of sports and is an instructor with the British Weight Lifters Association.
Mike is no stranger to endurance sport, winning medals as a student, county runner and a former British Masters steeplechase champion.
He guided one of Britain’s top visually impaired Paralympians at both the Sydney Paralympics and in two subsequent world championships over distances from 5000m to the marathon.
He has been part of TheTriTouch massage crew since 2010 and has joined us for the last 2 years at The London-Paris.
Dan Scott (London – EC3, N15, W9)
Dan is a Level 5 Sports Massage and Remedial Therapist. This is his first year as part of TheTriTouch massage crew, and since London-Paris he has truly caught the cycling bug.
After suffering with chronic neck and back pain from years of playing football and cricket, Dan developed an interest in massage and its purpose for rehabilitation and relieving pain.
He is now in his second season as a volunteer Sports Massage Therapist working with London Scottish Rugby Club assisting the physiotherapists and doctors in rehabilitation, pre and post match/training massage and pitchside first aid on match days.
Dan participates in sportives around the South of England such as The Blenheim Palace bike festival 100 miler and the Action Arrows 100.
The Alpine Challenge takes place from 7-11 September 2011. Registration closes Friday 5th August at 17:00!
