July 2011: Osteopathy & Biomechanical Assessments at Sigma Sport

Elena Ward has been part of TheTriTouch massage crew since 2010, working at many events such as The London-Paris and running the sport massage support at The Alpine Challenge.

Elena is based in Oxford, she is graduating from her Masters Degree in Osteopathy this month. She will also visit our Sigma Sport clinic a couple of days a month, starting with Friday 22 and Saturday 23 July to cover sports massage treatments, osteopathy and biomechanical assessments. Contact us on 07816 856 574 to book an appointment.

It’s been a busy 2011 for Elena so far. January saw the back of a 22,000-word Osteopathy dissertation, which inspired arebranding for her Oxford-based clinic, MOVE Sports Bodycare, affiliated to TheTriTouch.

“Long hours at the computer really made me appreciate how important moving is! It was incredibly frustrating not to be able to fit in as much activity in that time and to feel the damage to my body at just 0 mph! So MOVE Sports Body Care is all about removing barriers to getting moving, whether that be aches and pains, injuries, poor posture or general stiffness.”

February to April was spent juggling exam preparation, a busy sports massage practice and helping her partner Dan prepare for the 125-mile Devizes to Westminster (DW) canoe race taking place on Easter weekend under tough conditions. Dan’s newcomers team came an incredible 13th overall out of the 157 boats entered and won the mixed K2 class.

May was the month of whispered: “the finals”. But it was also the month that Elenajoined the team of tutors at the Oxford School of Sports Massage. She is now an assistant tutor working her way up to lead some of the tutoring on the Level 5 BTEC diploma courses.

In June, Elena joined TheTriTouch crew for a second dose of The London-Paris 2011. “I LOVE the London-Paris so I was very happy when that came around.  TheTriTouch massage crew is a brilliant team and the riders are incredibly inspiring.”

Elena has squeezed in a well-earned rest and a couple of races just in time to complete her registration and start incorporating osteopathy into her work after 4 hard years of study and clinical practice. “I really believe this will be invaluable for my practice and I am very excited about what it can bring to my clients and their sport.”
