London Triathlon: TheTriTouch & St Mary’s University College to Support UK Youth

It is nearly two years since TheTriTouch has started supporting UK Youth’s fundraising efforts.

This national charity has more than 100 years experience of supporting young people and currently works with 750,000 of them each year. It offers 10-24 year-olds a broad range learning opportunities beyond mainstream education. UK Youth takes part in a range of sports events to raise money and is also represented by a British Cycling Team (Team UK Youth) and this is where TheTriTouch comes in, by helping sore limbs recover.

On Saturday 22nd September, 250 fundraisers will race The London Triathlon, making it the charity with the most participants in the whole event.

For this event we are partnering with St Mary’s University College in Twickenham, where our own Leanne Claydon is a Sports Rehabilitation Lecturer.

Leanne will lead the team of ten second and third year Sports Rehabilitation students, who are volunteering to specifically look after the UK Youth fundraisers (lucky them!).

The team will provide free 10 minutes treatments between 1 and 5pm on site at the race finish including recovery massage, specific stretching and advice. You can support the UK Youth fundraisers by joining the Facebook page for UK Youth London Tri.

Some of the students have already volunteered at the London Marathon, the Cabbage Patch 10 and the Moonwalk. This will contribute to their massage hours required by the degree course.

Leanne adds: “The London Triathlon is a huge event and we are excited to be helping UK Youth’s athletes to recover after such a tremendous effort! It is also exciting to give the Sport Rehabilitation students at St Mary’s University College the opportunity to be involved in such a big event. I certainly know the students are looking forward to delivering treatments, some of which will be their first experience of working with triathletes! From experience, this is normally enough to spark interest in the sport, and I’m sure you’ll see them again soon whether as clinicians or triathletes!”

This is a huge undertaking on the logistics side (getting 10 massage couches and equipment across London on the day) and we are very grateful to Leanne and the students for their time and efforts in organising the event. St Mary’s University College is extremely reputable and a leader in the world sports rehabilitation. The UK Youth fundraisers really have something to look forward to, in addition to racing for a great cause, and the wonderful welcome that the UK Youth staff will give them on arrival, they will also be able to lie down and recover in style thanks to TheTriTouch and St Mary’s.
