Nevada ITU Long Course World Champs: Sports Massage and Bike Services
This year the World Championships long course race will take place in Henderson, Nevada. It will feature a 4K swim, which will be held at the Lake Las Vegas resort, a 120K-bike ride with more than 7,000 feet climbing, and a 30K run that boasts an additional 2,000 ft elevation gain.
115 British athletes will race again some of the best long distance triathletes from around the world. The team, managed by Tim Whitmarsh for the third year, will benefit from sports massage and bike service support: we hope to help you bring many medals home!
Sports Massage: Aurelie Almeida (TheTriTouch, based at the Sigma Sport building in London)
Aurelie has a strong sporting background and uses her specific therapy skills including deep tissue, myofascial release, taping and dry needling, as well as an extensive knowledge of race preparation and recovery to help her patients. Aurelie has been part of the British Triathlon support crew since 2009. She worked at the World Championships in Perth, Edinburgh, Immerstadt, Budapest and more recently in Beijing.
What is sports massage? Sports massage is a deep tissue, remedial massage which is sport-specific. It has been recognised as an essential therapy to athletes since the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
Timings and costs: Event specific massage appointments will be available on Wednesday 2nd, Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th November in a meeting room at the official GB team hotel: The Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort. Aurelie will be available on Saturday at the race site (cheering you on). 20 minutes slots will cost £15 or 25 USD (please bring the correct amount in cash). If you have never had a sports massage before, we strongly recommend you to have a full session (45 min) with your local sports massage therapist prior to the event.
Bookings: You can pre book your appointment before you fly out to Nevada until Friday 28th October latest by contacting Aurelie on 07816 856 574 or info@thetritouch.co.uk. After this date, you will be able to book within the hotel. There will be a flipchart in the entrance hall with all team GB information, including massage room location. it’s very likely that sports massage and bike services will be located in the same room.
Bike Services: David Taylor (Sigma Sport, London)
David will be packing his tool box again for the World Championships, you may remember him from the ETU Long course in Finland earlier this year. He will be taking a comprehensive tool kit and limited spares, and will be operating in the team hotel.
Timings and costs: David will be available from Tuesday 1st until Sunday 6th. A safety checkover and adjustment post-build will be £15, and he will be offering the in-demand build and re-box service for £60. Reasonable rates will apply for other work needed.
As it is the World Champs, Dave recommends a PROPER service at your local shop before heading out, including checking cables, chain, pads and bearings. Also, make sure you take any specific spare parts for your bike, including a spare derailleur hanger, as they can be hard to source locally.
Bookings: Dave’s contact details are 07847 100 556, and email dtinuk@hotmail.com. As there are so many athletes going to the event, pre-booking is recommended to avoid disappointment and delays.
We look forward to seeing you all in Henderson, have a safe flight.
